Steaming egg nog - Page 2

Postby cannonfodder on Fri Dec 22, 2006 3:41 pm

I have a carton in front of me (benefit of working for a restaurant supply company).

C.F. Burger Creamery

Colonial style Custard nog

½ cup serving
Calories 180
Calories from fat 70

Note, custard nog is thicker than egg nog because it is cooked.

Try Silk (soymilk) brand "Nog." It has no cholesterol (or saturated fat).

We are not regular soymilk drinkers, but this is our preferred "eggnog" drink. Spiked or not, your choice. Its very good, especially topped with some nutmeg.

As an aside, I have no affiliation with Silk soymilk.

If there were two glasses out, one with soynog and the other with a traditional 'nog, couldja tell which was which?

Oh, and I looked. 45 mg of cholesterol per serving, and >300 mg suggested per day. I dunno how I got the two figgers crossed. Can't even blame my dyslexia for that one.

Psyd, not sure if I could tell or not. I know I don't like the super-thick (almost sludgy) feel of some egg nog, for the same reason that I can't tolerate whole milk. From a health standpoint, its well worth the adjustment (if there is one). I should add I don't use alcohol in my "nog." Not sure how that would effect the taste. Cheers!

Hah, alright, that's a little more reasonable!
Well anyway I've been making them for my friends and such, and I've found that a ratio of about 1/3 milk to 2/3 nog like c0bra said works pretty well. Also, I found this recipe on CoffeeGeek for a delicious sounding egg nog and espresso drink from scratch. Haven't gotten around to making one yet but can't wait to try!
