Reducing caffeine by dumping last part of espresso extraction

Postby prof_stack on Mon Jul 23, 2007 5:19 pm

Last month my physician advised me to lower my blood pressure and I decided to slightly reduce my caffeine intake. So I started pouring 3/4 of a shot and for awhile was using the first runnings of the 15g filled basket. Much better flavor than pouring two shots into two shot glasses.

So now I use the small basket with 8g for 3/4 shot for me and for the wife 10g with a 4/4 shot. Richer and thicker coffee/crema from the Sama lever and a smoother flavor. We are impressed by the improved flavor.

Does anyone else do anything similar to this? I'm a believer in the single shot basket now.

btw. my blood pressure this morning was 111/66 so I think I'm doing things okay now. :D
