Priming Estro Vapore

Postby alpaca.1 on Tue Jul 08, 2008 5:15 pm

Having difficult time priming Estro Vapore machine. It is approx 10 years old but have hardly used it. Opened the steam valve with the brew and steam buttons in off position but did not prime. Any suggestions would be appeciated.?
Thanks,
Diane

I don't know about Estro Vapore machines, but with Gaggia machines you prime the machine by opening the steam valve and running the pump until a few ounces of water come out of the steam wand. Maybe a similar procedure would work for your machine.

Yes, The instructions tell you to open the steam wand valve and that should start the pump to fill the boiler.
You have to open the valve knob far enough to have the microswitch in the back of the knob turn on. If not, just run the serve button till there is water coming from the wand. The microswitch on the steam valve was out of adjustment on my Profi when i got it. It is under the sheetmetal top. not a big thing to remove the sheet metal if it is a microswitch out of adjustment.
Good pulls to you!

Thanks for your input. Tried exactly what you said but I think something else is going on. I messed with it all day , cleaned all parts I could get to without any luck
Might have to send it to the junk yard.
Thanks again
Diane

NO! I think you can prime it by forcing water into the intake tube while the pump is running. You may need to remove the metal cover, or hold the intake tube as high up as you can 8I don't remember exactly). Anyway, a turkey baster or other type of pump that will force water into the Ulka until it gets running is all you need.

The Estro can make better espresso than most HB folks would like to admit, so if you're on a budget I suggest getting it running. If you're already convinced that you want to "upgrade" (i.e. spend more money) you can probably get something for the Estro on Ebay.

HERE is the Place has all the parts and seals for this early S$ machine.
Perhaps nothing more than a vinegar/citric acid flush of the ULKA may do the job. If the pump runs for a serve/brew then the wand is plugged. Certainly a citric acid flush of the machine would probably be in order. The wand or boiler outlet may be milk and scale bound. Pipe Cleaners from the local market may be of service there. With care, Profis do produce a fairly acceptable cup. I've rebuilt two of the beasties and one is still "the machine" in the shop at school. No worry if it is destroyed ( a definite possibility when I am not in attendance.)
Good luck!
Upgradeitis is not a bad thing..just expensive....
Cheers
