There's a series of these on various types of coffee brewing including espresso, chemex and syphon. I've found that these load faster on youtube than they do on vimeo. Available in various HD resolutions. I love the choice to shoot in black and white.

All the coffee in Ethiopia won't make me a morning person.

Very nicely done. I love the photography and selective use of color. Makes me want to go pull a shot.

The French have a word for this that does not translate into English, "Bof"

Basically, Bof is the verbal equivalent of a yawn, or "so what," or "that's dull."

Here you have a charismatic barista and barista champ explaining some basics of espresso making (as they do it there, at Intelly) which is actually an advertisement about why you should go there to have a nice espresso because they are, oh so careful, about how they do it. I'd compare it to Heather Perry's "Got Milk" video that has been linked to on this board on more than one occasion.

I can see where a newbie might find this enthralling, but for anyone with a modicum of experience at making espresso shots, there is absolutely no content whatsoever.

Ouch, that was a harsh critique! :D

I concur that the information provided was aimed at people who don't know anything about espresso (and financially motivated). Still, I thought the style of the cinematography was very nice. It captured some of the best artistic aspects of espresso making for me.

I always find it interesting when things I enjoy hold no appeal to others. Your opinion made me smile.

(Of course, I am definitely a newbie  )

Matt,

It's a nice video, if you are judging it on the basis of cinematography and the demeanor of Kyle, the presenting barista. You could say the same for any of the videos that Heather Perry has produced.

But this is an enthusiast board. A "slick" video presented at a level to attract the average web video viewer is very unlikely to have the content that would appeal to people reading posts on this website. It isn't that the video is crap, it is that the video isn't intended for the level of home barista that participates on this board. On the other hand, if Kyle was going into the sort of minutia that might interest us, the average person would find it uninteresting and tiresome, and head out to the nearest Starbucks.

I think it is a good example of the type of video that might (in theory) increase the target population for good espresso obtainable at cafes. Will it actually accomplish that? I really doubt it.

I loved it!

And while I am certainly no expert I am also far from being a noobie. As far as I'm concerned, anything that promotes the spread and elevation of coffee culture in this land is a good thing.

Of course, everyone is entitled to an opinion. 8)

These days I'd say it translates very well to the colloquial American word "meh" that emerged sometime ca. the mid-1990s. "Bof" is significantly older, but (at least current) usage is practically identical.

Translation niggles aside, this one did not make me say "meh" at all. While I didn't see anything in terms of espresso preparation instruction that was new to me here, I very much enjoyed the presentation.
