How do you "decontaminate" a steam wand???

I made my 12-year old daughter a soy milk latte this morning . . . Image

You didn't specify which machine you have. Generally a pipe cleaner and a coffee cleaning product soak are sufficient. If the wand is removable, take it off and see if the goop has gone into the mounting fitting.

Depends. If milk is not inside the wand, just wipe it off. You could submerge the wand in a cup of hot water and let it soak, then blast some steam out of it 3 or 4 times with a little soak time between each. Unless milk got up inside the wand, there is not need to take it off for a scrubbing.

Sorry . . . the whole thing was kind of a joke -- after I gave Olivia her vanilla soy latte, part of me felt like I was working at *$ -- as soon as I flushed the steam wand thoroughly, and wiped off the outside, I took a shower . . .

Haha that was funny. At least I got a lesson on what to do if that ever really DID happen! :)

Good, 'cause my response was that prevention is worth a pound of cure, so I just try not to get any soy products near the steam wand to start with... ; >

whats the big deal?

sometimes people want soy. we steam it up for them. its not what i want to drink but they do. steam it up just like normal milk from a cow. stretch less dont go as hot or it foams up really thick. wipe the wand like normal. no issues. no worries. now on the other hand i will probably never ever ever ever ever ever EVER steam eggs.

*sigh*
1. Take a deep breath
2. Go back and read it again
3. Pay close attention to all of the indications that we were kidding around, like smileys and such.
4. Look in the mirror and say, "Oh yeah, hunh! Heh-heh-heh"
5. Repeat until you're actually feeling it.
6. Remember what they say if you can't take a joke! ; >
