Ahem, gasket issues are a PITA, both on espresso machines and old men...

As far as E61 groups go, changing a gasket once a year is super easy. All it takes is a spoon or some other flat piece of metal and 5 minutes. That's why i do not worry about this and leave the portafilter in there. On the Rockets, the shower screen has a notch on the side, so it makes it even easier. A no brainer for the OP as far i am concerned!

+1 to this. Cranking the gasket when idle seems to accelerate the deformation of my gaskets.

I leave the basket out of my portafilter when not in use (usually on the cup tray, but not always). This lets the portafilter lock in loosely at 90°. That way if it gets bumped slightly, it's less likely to fall out of the group.
