Bricoletta and Microfoam

Postby roccster on Fri May 06, 2011 3:32 am

I think I had decent skill in frothing milk. I do confess that not every can becomes acceptable microfoam, but most of them. That was until I changed to the Bricoletta. I have read some posts about people in here with the same problem, and in some answers changing the tip of the steam pipe seems to be the resolution.

Here is what I do.

I start frothing the milk as usual, making that tearing paper sound. I do this for a couple of seconds so I get some volume. I then lower the steam pipe deeper in to the can and get that swirl going. The milk seems fine until I turn the knob of the steam. Often I get larger bubbles at this point, but if I don't I get semi-good microfoam. That means microfoam not as micro and thick as it should be.

So coming from a simple Gaggia Baby to a Bricoletta has made my latte art terrible :)

Shall try to change the tip, and if so to what? Is it safe to change the tip (regarding pressure etc)...

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps when you are ready to shut the steam off, you might lower the steam tip deeper into the milk and then quickly shut the steam off. This might prevent the big bubbles at the end.

Also, try holding the tip just beneath the surface for a little longer, then lower it slightly to raise the temp.

I forget what I used with the Bric. I remember having a 4-hole tip with 1 hole plugged, but don't remember if that worked, or if I wound up using a 2-hole. Yes, perfectly okay to change tips. Just assure that you get the same thread size (I think it is 10mm/1mm)

Hope that helps!
