Best way to have the SAME correct dose...

Postby ventura on Sun May 22, 2011 12:09 pm

I can see that both my Rancilio Silvia AND new Bezzera are very finicky when it comes to the Correct DOSE and grind :roll: I am trying to figure out the best way to have the SAME correct dose all the time. I tried with a measuring spoon... not working well :( Any suggestions :?:
Thanks,
Vent.

It's IMPOSSIBLE to have the SAME correct dose all the time. However, with a scale you can accurately dose to whatever is necessary at the moment.

Different coffees at different ages all require different doses.
Next week, I'm shifting from my custom Redbird @ 11.3g to Sant' Eustachio from Roma @ 7.5g to several SO's @ ??? the week after.

Different coffees at different ages dont "require" different doses, although you may find flavours that you prefer by varying the dose.

Far better for most people to try to get consistency by dosing accurately and pouring accurately. Weighing coffee and shots is the best method of gaining this consistency. The sweet spot for me on my Lever is 14.5g and about 30g of coffee in the cup, for a double espresso. Those who prefer the flavours of the new drinks created by 3rd wave cafes overdosing may wish to try replicating these drinks. You can do this by slowly increasing the amount of grounds and maintaining the brew ratio.

+1
The one recommended in the thread 'Inexpensive accurate scale...' is widely tested to be excellent.
Only one pita is shipping time (to Poland it took some 3 weeks travel) but then consider the price.

I bought my last scale from Old Will Knot Scale Company;

Don't know about price comparsions but the selection is quite large and they seem to know the subject very well.
