Another HX flush method - Page 3

My point is just that a small difference in the amount of time from flush end to shot start may have a large effect on final shot temperature.

My point is that with a restrictor it won't. However for "dragon" HX machines without a restrictor you are correct.

so i got a hold on a Scace thermofilter, thought i might share my results.

there seems to be a 2 degree offset on my particular machine, so i now try to shoot for a 204 degree reading on erics thermometer to get 202 at the puck.

i use the same method i described in my original post, except with a few adjustments.

note the group temp, and flush for the corresponding seconds:
195 = 1 sec
196 = 2 sec
197 = 3 sec
198 = 4 sec and so on.

wait 40 seconds then pull. i get a thermometer reading of 204 at the beginning then 202 at the end.
202-200 at the puck.

Interesting Alvin. Did you try any flush and go readings?

i tried pulling right after the flush (ending at 206) and temp briefly reads 200 then shoots down to 190 at the end of the shot.
oh yeah, that shot was sour too.... :x

I was just going back over this thread and found this post. So strange that we get such different results from supposedly identical machines. Your pstat is set to 1.1bar correct? What temp do you idle at?

yes i set it to 1.1. it idles around 204-206.

i did do some flush-n-go readings. stopped the flush at 206 then pulled. thermofilter read 199 at the top of the shot then 191 at the end.

i imagine having it plumbed or tanked has a lot to do with it. the water coming in to my machine is currently 57F so i would figure it takes longer to warm up vs. the 80F water in the tank.

i will run some readings on tank mode.

I run in tank mode but my idle and pstat is identical to yours. I flush n go at 206 and I stabilize around 200 IIRC. I'll double check that tomorrow morning. I've actually been meaning to lower my pstat to 1 or .9 in order to reduce the flush. I think I'm around 10 seconds at full idle temp. Again, I'll double check that tomorrow.

so i switched over to tank mode, tried the flush-n-go: still temps were all over the place. tried the routine that has been working for me and it seemed more stable.

If my testing reveals anything its that every individual machine is apparently different. and this here is what works for me, and possibly for someone else with similar setup.

i think with further testing i can fine tune my flush routine even further. This thermofilter is just too much fun.

When you say temp were all over the place, what do you mean exactly? Where the readings inconsistent from shot to shot or too much shift within a given shot?

I took some casual readings this morning and my flush from idle(204) to spike(213), and back down to 206 took about 8 seconds. I immediately pulled and the shot did run a little on the cool side, 194. Assuming an offset, actual temp may have been as much as 198 but yeah the shot was sour. I haven't been watching the temp readout in general lately as I'm usually squatting down watching the extraction. My shots lately have been good so it's strange that today when i actually decide to watch the temp that I get a sour shot. Oh well. More testing required.

Recently purchase a Cellini and Eric's thermometer and I'm trying to figure this out also. So is the idea to get to your ideal temp then pull, or undershoot it by a few degrees?
