1st shot w/ freshly roasted beans...Comments/Critiques

Postby grant862 on Sun Aug 21, 2011 9:19 pm

Not looking for a big discussion...but I just purchased my first non-marketplace coffee and what a huge difference. This is Kean espresso blend coffee roasted 2 days ago. I ground it with a Hario Mini Mill and using a Saeco Sirena machine. The shot is 2.5 ounces in 25-26 seconds, 30lb tamp. Tasted excellent to me, but my palate is limited to my own shots (just started doing all this a few weeks ago...at least w/ a non PPF).

Any comments/critiques/suggestions? I really have no idea if what I am doing looks proper...but this one tasted like candy to me, at least in the sense that I didn't pick up on any sour/bitter tastes...very smooth and delicious.

Thanks

I'm also fairly new(<1 year experience),but I believe the shot came out too fast with a bit too much espresso. Try to be a little closer to around 2oz.

But like I said I am also an amateur.

As long as it tastes good to you, that is all that matters :D

It seems like shot blonded too fast try grinding finer see whether you like that more...

Agrees- grind finer, maybe use more coffee (couldn't see what was in the PF), and stop it before it loses that much viscosity (before it gets quite so watery). But if you can drink it straight and:
- not make a scrunched up face
- be able to drink it all
and
- not spit any on the floor
Then you are already off to a good start.
