But rumor has it (see Arnoud's comment - Faema Lambro ) that some Faema Presidents are true HX, with a cold water injector into the lower fittings. I think this might possibly be one of those because otherwise I'm not sure the tube would have frozen and split when in storage if it already had a hole in it for the boiler water feed. A picture from the other side of the boiler, or a picture of the lower fittings might help clear that question up.
I missed this thread, thanks Dominico for bringing it up.

Iirc no multi group presidents with sight glass behind the frontplate have a open thermosyphon. They are all boiler fed with the system Dominic posted above. They are easy to rebuild to cold fed also if you would want to do that because its basically ane61 boilers with two extra fittings in the bottom of the boiler. Anyways;

The remedie for solving the OP's cracked hx is replacing the entire hx tube and its going to be a PITA. You're going to need the exact right size copper or stainless tube, loads and loads of heat because that boiler is going to eat all of your torch power. You're going to have to preheat it like crazy and then still welding will be hit or miss. Worse thing is, you can only find out if you failed or not when you put the machine back together.

If you can't do such a fix yourself, you might as well start hunting for a new boiler or decide to use only 2 groups.
