Just ordered my EspressoForge earlier today and surprise, I see new photos on the website tonight. First impressions of the new 2.1 - I like the angled gauge and silicone gasket upgrade. The group looks tweaked as well.

Got my Forge v2.1 yesterday! It will pair with a Pharos and stay at the office. No user experience to speak of yet so I'll report back later once I've pulled a few photo worthy shots. Initial impression is great overall. the silicone cover feels nice and grippy and the gauge is easy to view with the slight tilt.
Here's a pic of the Forge/Pharos pairing. I think aesthetically and philosophically they go well together. Both exude an industrial function first aesthetic that I really like.

Hands down the easiest espresso maker to make good espresso, over and over again. Even the bad shots are good. Not that looks are everything...but is sure is something :D

This is an Ethiopian dry process roasted on my iroast2 about a week ago.

No preheat
18g Klatch house espresso blend ground pretty fine (1/2 turn from zero on my Pharos new version)
2 bar for 8 sec
4 bar for 8 sec
9 bar with slowly descending pressure
Piston bottomed out
30g out
Syrupy, very sweet with hint of fruit/acidity
FYI if anyone is interested ~105g of water fills the forge to the top using the stock basket and 18g. I'm microwaving water to boil and using a little stainless funnel to fill.

At work I was also thinking about microwaving and using a funnel. I would weigh the water and microwave in my output cup to boil the water and preheat the cup. Then quickly dump all the boiling water in the funnel. As long as it's the right amount of water, I imagine it would fill it without spilling (unless it's possible to trap air). Is that what you are doing randyh?

Matt,

That is exactly what I'm doing. With trial and error, 105g of water seems to be the right amount if pouring without stopping. I've noticed if I wait a moment, the water level goes down a little. This may be water slowly going through the shower screen and filling up the head room in the basket. So the Forge could hold more water that way, but if you pour more than 105g of water without stopping, you will run the risk of overpouring and spilling.

Also, the stock basket that came with the Forge seems very big. 18g tamped comes up to no more than half full. Seems more like a triple basket than a 14g double. Anyone else notice this?

Randy - Do you find that the stainless funnel gets warm or hot? I am trying to decide between stainless and a plastic funnel. I want one big enough to hold the water if poured quickly and food safe, but I'd prefer it not absorb much heat in the process.

This is the funnel I'm using

http://www.amazon.com/Norpro-Favorite-S ... _1&sr=sr-1

It gets warm but not hot. I have to pour somewhat slowly but not any slower than if I was using a gooseneck kettle without the funnel. Maybe takes 10 sec. The plus side is it's small so that probably helps limit the heat absorption. Plastic would probably absorb less heat I would imagine, but can't say for sure. I'm against plastic contacting my hot water, so I'm happy with the stainless funnel.
