A little late in the reply, but if anyone is down in San Diego, check out Dark Horse Coffee Roasters!

They have locations in Truckee, Normal Heights (San Diego), and are opening two more in SD neighborhoods Golden Hill and North Park.

I'll be in LA & SD this weekend - thanks for the recommendations!

Is Coffee & Tea Collective worth a try?

coffee & tea is definitely worth trying. My top three in the area so far is Bird Rock, Coffee & Tea Collective and James Coffee Co

Coffee & Tea Collective is worth a stop, as is Dark Horse Coffee Roasters (no espresso, though). My personal favorite in San Diego is Lofty Coffee Co in Encinitas, so a bit north of central San Diego. They have a cafe and a roastery - across the street from each other. Cold brew on tap (nitro'd too!), Synesso at the cafe, Modbar at the roastery. I'd say the best cafe in San Diego in terms of coffee preparation, and their coffee sourcing has been steadily improving.
