DRM for coffee - broken

K-CUPS now come with security chips, but some users have been able to defeat it with a pair of scissors and tape.

Cut out a chip from a genuine lid, and tape it to the sensor. No more DRM. :) I am actually surprised the machine doesn't keep a small DB of the last 50 used pods to restrict this behavior. Not really that surprised though.

That will be in the next firmware upgrade. :wink: I am sure they can get some tech help from a couple of the ink jet printer manufacturers if they ask.

Oh man. In today's market, I would not want to be these guys. They are asking to be hit with a DMCA violation. Green Mount. will probably sue these guys for every K-CUP they didn't sell... This is akin to the idea every download of a movie robs the industry of US$250K of income.
