I am selling my modified Solis SL-70 espresso machine. I modified it to add a PID temperature controller to help manage the boiler temperature for consistent temperatures at the beginning of shots. The temperature display on the PID also helps you manage intrashot temperature stability - I do this by using the steam switch to cycle the heating element on and off during the shot. This is not necessary, but I think it gives better control. The PID has been tuned to avoid massive overshoot.

Here's a video demonstrating the machine on Vimeo:
It is a Single-Boiler, Dual-Use (SBDU) machine, meaning that one boiler serves to provide both brew water and steam. The brass boiler is a good size capacity (300 cc/9 oz) which helps with temperature stability. That is about the same as the Silvia boiler, which are both about 3 times the size of the Gaggia boilers. The water reservoir is 3 quarts, and detaches easily from the back of the machine.

See Mark Prince's excellent full review of this machine: https://www.coffeegeek.com/proreviews/d ... /cremasl70

Portafilter is 53mm brass (non-pressurized), fits Saeco/Starbucks baskets. Includes 1 Saeco double basket, 1 each of the Solis single and double pressurized baskets. Includes 53mm Rattleware aluminum tamper. In case you have a thermocouple and meter, I also will include a Saeco basket with a hole drilled in the middle (used for threading a thermocouple through to check temperature in the coffeecake). Manual available as PDF, printed copy included.

I have adjusted the OPV to 9 bar. OPV drains into drip tray. Details on that procedure and adding the PID are in these threads at CoffeeGeek:

This machine was my backup machine, which I used once a year or so when my Isomac HX was under repairs. It has had pretty light use over the last few years.

I will be packing the machine inside its original box, protected by copious bubble wrap and stabilized by styrofoam sheets. That box will be packed within a double-wall box again cushioned and stabilized with styrofoam. The boiler and water lines will be filled with a vodka solution and then drained (completely flush it with fresh water before use!) to help prevent freeze damage. The steam valve will also be left open to further allow for expansion should a freeze occur. The machine will be wrapped in plastic to help avoid any leaks.

I love this machine, but need the cash more to supplement unemployment insurance.

Price: $395. I think this is a pretty good price considering PID kits are around $200 and this is a Silvia-class machine. Terms: Buyer pays actual shipping costs (I can estimate for you if you send your address and whether it is residential) by carrier of your choice: USPS, UPS, FedEx, or local pick-up near Fayetteville, AR. Payment due in advance via Paypal, Bluebird card, or check (with time for clearance through banks). I will ship to Canada and USA.

I have 100% positive feedback on eBay (dana_leighton), and I am a moderator on CoffeeGeek and a semi-regular contributor here, so you can be assured that the transaction will proceed well.
