I put that in a Linea for someone along with a Fuji PID. Slathered it in thermal grease and put it in the bottom of the thermowell. It's surely not near as good as getting a 1/8" or 1/16" tubing adapter and using a matching thermocouple stuck right into the boiler, but it seems to work well enough. I've never Scace tested the thing, though, so I can't speak to its thermal performance.

I believe I have heard from good sources (Omega Electronics tech support?) that RTD's respond much slower then thermocouples. Don't know if that means much in an espresso machine.

Never used one of these before. LM switched to pt1000 RTD for all of their machines quite some time ago. Thermocouples and RTD's come in many varieties and can cost anywhere from $2-several hundred dollars. They come is all kinds of response times and precisions so it is hard to generalize if one type is faster or better.
