You are right. I was making some confusion as the HX or a brew boiler should take higher hydrostatic pressures.

Thanks a lot for all the info.

BTW, the guy who answered my questions doesn't know what's the hydrostatic pressure they use at the factory.

The boilers on an espresso machine can be exposed to pump pressure, since heat exchangers can burst. I don't know what this terms of boiler design, but Expobar uses the same off-the-shelf vessel for their steam and 9 bar brew boilers inside the Brewtus, so my guess is that many espresso boilers are designed to work with higher pump pressures.

But all that aside, the safety stat on espresso boilers is set to 2 bar -- all the companies that insure you, your building, the machine, its manufacturers and sellers are going to walk away from any accident if you defeat it in your pressure test. My guess is you'd have a hard time finding even a personal injury lawyer to take on that case.

That makes sense, Jim. Even dedicated steam boilers could get more pressure if the level probe or eletronic box fails, safety valve fails and the pump doesn't stop when filling the boiler.

I remember I heard (not read) Marzocco boilers are tested to 20 bar.

If anyone can donate a Semiautomatica boiler (year 2004), I could take mine to a pro facility and hydrostatic test it to failure, so we all could know Elektra's limit...
