Suggestion for the lever machine forum FAQs or as a sticky.

I think it would be a great idea to have a faq or sticky post dedicated to discussions about different styles of pulls for levers. I have found that the search feature doesn't bring up results on this line of search very well. With this form of post it would be readily available anytime in a centralized location. I assume though that such a post may quickly become huge. Possibly instead there could be several such posts placed in a faq. Maybe put up one for each of the more prevalent lever machines, such as the Pavonis, Elektras, Creminas, Ponte Vecchio's, etc. I know that there is already a similar post in the faq, "The fellini post", but I think all the lever junkies might benefit from this feature.

Built it and they will come... if you or another lever member wish to organize such a discussion, go for it.

Linking it from the Lever Forum FAQ is easily done. Rather than clutter each forum with stickies, I think that filtering by forum for the best threads is better. The site-wide FAQs and Favorites already does this to some extent and it wouldn't be difficult to filter by forum. Let me think about how to implement it.

Have you considered using community-based bookmarking like del.icio.us? For example, create a common login privately shared by those who wish to contribute to indexing the Lever forum. I elaborated on this idea in Member Library for Threads and Posts:

I've been thinking about the idea of "social bookmarking" for awhile. The dedicated FAQs and Favorites forum is my first foray; it links the "best of" threads for the site, but it's geared towards newcomers who wish to explore in depth rather than long-time members who wish to refind information. For that I've thought about tagging or thread rating as a way of letting members collectively decide what's noteworthy.

Instead of reinventing, another option is community bookmarking services like del.icio.us. As a trial, I've added automatically generated bookmarking links to the thread heading above the author. Look for this symbol:



It is only displayed to logged in users. Clicking it will bring you to del.icio.us with the correct URL and suggested title to add to your bookmarks. I've opened an account (homebarista) and will tag my selections with home-barista (always), espresso (frequently), coffee (sometimes), etc. What do you think?

FYI, this board is based on phpBB and the next version has built-in bookmarking. It will be awhile before it's release though...

I have never used social bookmarking myself, but that may be a good option. The link above will hopefully generate some other ideas. I am sure you will have a better idea of the feasability of them.
