Printing reviews including images

Postby alexp on Thu Jan 08, 2009 5:18 am

Hallo,

first, I'd like to say 'thank you' for that great site!

I wonder if there is a possibility to print the reviews etc. including the images. I tried different browsers and settings (including 'print background & images'), but can not manage to print the site as it's displayed.

I need to select and print each image individually, which makes printing and reading offline cumbersome.

Any hints?

Thanks

Alex

The site is based on phpBB and its CSS for print says "display: none" for images; it also reduces a lot of other noise. The same process is used for the articles. That's great for those who want to print without burning through pricey inkjet cartridges, not so great for those that want article fidelity. At the moment I cannot think of an easy, low-cost solution. :?

You can use your browser's "Save As" function to download the page you want to print, along with images and CSS files, to your harddisk then manually edit print.css to display images.

There's another, easier, way but it involves installing the (free) Opera browser. Once at the page you want to print, choose "View->Style->User Mode", and any other options you like, to ignore Dan' CSS and print the page the way you want.

Is there any simple solution for printing a multipage article? Sometimes I hate all these LCD, TFT, CRT, etc. but the content of this forum is fascinating.

Sorry, nothing that's easy comes to mind. The ideal solution would be laying out the article with a dedicated print application to create a PDF, but that's a lot of work. In any case, thanks for reminding me that I had left "clean up the print CSS" unchecked on my to-do list. It's now a little tidier for printing a thread (i.e., the masthead, ads, controls, etc. aren't printed to save toner).
