Poll request

Postby edwa on Thu Sep 28, 2006 2:12 pm

If I understood the instructions correctly, I need to have a moderator to construct a poll. With that in mind:

I'd like to request a poll that asks former Silvia users what upgrade choice they made. Give them 3 checkboxes to click either Hx, Double Boiler, or Single Boiler. They should also be invited to name the machine they upgraded to. If your software is like the one on my Volvo forum you can display results.

Thanks in advance,
Ed

Hi Dan,

Here's a request for a new poll.

"Poll - What's your method of temperature management?"

Choice#
1. Thermofilter
2. Eric's E61 Adapter
3. Thermocouple in filter basket
4. Flush by time
5. Flush by volume
6. Other, please explain

This is not meant to argue the best or "correct" method but to get a bead on what most of us are doing on a day in day out basis. Those of you that are using a combination - pick the ONE you use the most. Day in, day out for your personal use.

I think the "other" choice and explanation will prove to be the most interesting. Please, don't let the established overly technical methods dissuade you from posting your alternate.

(Dan, please feel free to add any other choices for a better representation)

Your answers imply two different questions: Techniques for dialing in brew temperature (1, 3, and partially 2) and techniques for daily temperature management (4, 5, and partially 2). Would you clarify which (or both) you're interested in?

Wouldn't 4 &/or 5 be methods for folks who don't have 1,2, or 3? However, my objective was to ask about methods of hitting or trying to hit a brew temperature range.

P.S. I added "your alternate" to the last sentence in the above poll post

1 and 3 are a means to determine 4 and 5; 2 does both. Now what was the question again?

I think at this point I cry "uncle".

When I started I didn't have a multi-meter/thermocouple and I didn't have an e61 adapter I used flush by volume based upon postings I'd read to get to an approximation of brewing temperature. Back then I also counted after flash, in fact with the Eric's adapter I still do a 2 count after the short idle flash.

Then I got a multimeter and K type and used it only for testing with water, BUT, I did once read of a member who made his shot with a thermocouple hanging over the lip of the PF. So, maybe choice one is inappropriate for determining brew temperature.

If I had my own #1 I would use it occasionally to verify #2's influence of #4 & #5 to get to the brew temperature. How do you pose the question so that the thermofilter can be included and for that matter the guy making shots with the thermocouple?

That's why I "thought" in my ignorance that temperature management might be a general enough term.

Maybe, "What's your weapon of choice to target brew temperature?"

Created What is your method of HX brew temperature management? with slightly ambiguous choices. It may not pass a research scientist's survey standards, but I think the question / discussion will be interesting. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks, Big Kahuna, for ironing out the details. Didn't really care to be scientific just trying to hear what the general membership does and hoping to get a few wild cards in the mix for fun.
