Help using the website Search feature

Postby timo888 on Thu Mar 09, 2006 9:52 am

Is there a way to Search this website for articles on a specific machine without getting 'false hits' that result when the machine name appears in the sigs of posters? Is there a way to limit the search to the body of the article?

I'm confused. Are you using Google to search? The site's search doesn't include the signature or profile information. For example, if I search on "Kehn", there's only 10 matches site-wide since it doesn't look in the signatures of my ~1500 posts. You can also limit searches to the subject / message or only the message text (select Search message text only under Search options).

Dan,
Thanks for the reply. I concluded too hastily that this website's Search function was scanning sigs because postings that did not seem germane to my search were being returned and my browser's CTRL-F jumped to the search term in a sig of one of the results. However, I now see that the search term does indeed appear in the body of one of the postings much lower down in the topic; sometimes the search term might appear several pages down, on page 5, say, of an 8-page resultset. In Topics mode, the entire topic is returned when any posting in it matches; changing the results mode to 'Posts' does the trick.
Regards
Timo
