Greg Scace (gscace) joins Team HB

Postby HB on Wed Aug 22, 2007 1:51 pm

The Titan Grinder Project has turned out to be quite an endeavor, showing just how far we can push the serious side of espresso research with a combination of experience, enthusiasm, and supporting sponsors. Yesterday as I reflected on the year's projects and those ahead, I remembered the adage, "Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you," (*) and immediately thought of Greg Scace. I figured he would pass, but hey, what's the harm in asking him to join Team HB? The worse he could say is 'no' (or 'Are you kidding? I've got better things to do like, I dunno, trim my fingernails.' :?).

Behind the scenes, Greg has been a peer reviewer and advisor on knotty problems that have cropped up in equipment reviews, especially those near to his expertise, thermometry. If the debate involves brew temperature and its measurement, he is "da man" to talk to (it doesn't hurt that it's his profession too; he's a mechanical engineer in the NIST's Thermometry Group).

To my surprise, Greg agreed and will take over as lead barista for the Bench forum. I'm sure I speak for everyone when saying we look forward to the experience, skill, and expertise he'll bring to the team. Welcome Greg!

(*) Chris Nachtrieb says this was his father's advice, and it's indeed good advice!
