Equipment reviews

I refer to Cannonfodder's excellent review of the Olympia Express Maximatic and in particular his summing up. His criticisms which were few seemed to centre on the jug provided by Olympia and the requirement to break the boiler vacuum once the Maximatic had achieved the target pressure level.

I believe the concern about the jug was addressed by my earlier post to the earlier review by HB advising that a newly designed jug was now being provided by Olympia and the concern about vacuum breaking was addressed in another forum where Olympia's vacuum breaking cap design was being discussed and the consensus was that the newly designed boiler cap addressed the criticism that the Maximatic lacked an automatic vacuum breaker function.

My suggestion is subject to HB's editorial integrity being preserved. Is that product distributors/manufacturers be given the opportunity to comment within a specified timeframe on the relevant review so that any misconceptions could be identified and addressed by HB. This opportunity would be provided on the understanding that HB was not obliged to have regard to any comments submitted and undue delays were avoided. :D

As part of the evaluation process, it's good that vigilant readers and manufacturers provide feedback on changes applied to more recent models. However, as a general rule, reviewers only speak to their first-hand experience. The two items you mentioned were duly noted in the review (the new vacuum breaker in particular was mentioned several times).

Believe me, I am not difficult to find and sponsors are not shy about contacting me if they feel their product is being inaccurately portrayed. We welcome corrections of factual errors or relevant updates. I've recently corresponded with Robert Spicer (owner of Swiss Coffee Products) and Heinrich Linz (owner of Olympia Express) and they are both satisfied with the accuracy of the Second Look as it stands today.
