Compilation of great cafes

Postby erics on Tue Aug 08, 2006 9:10 am

Hope the thermocouples and thermocouple adaptors are still hard at work:

Every now and then somebody poses the question, "Where can I find good espresso in Anycity, Anystate?"

Would it not be nice to have a compilation of the answers?

Another item that I noticed on another forum I frequent (Fine Homebuilding - Breaktime) is an area where posters can submit "practice" posts or where you might apply some special posting features not available on the regular forums.

There's espressomap, which is cool and will be useful once it's populated. Is Mayorga any good?

Mayorga has two stores in our area (possibly more, but I am aware of two). One is out of the way for me (Rockville, MD) and the other is right here on the skirts of downtown Silver Spring. The Silver Spring store is a parking fiasco because of other construction but even so, I would say that the Mayorga Espresso Sauve beans are pretty good. Espresso drinks are not on a par with Murky but, in all fairness, there's not much that is.

We are not quite as fortunate as you with Black Cat being "right around the corner."

Being hopelessly devoted to high-end espresso, whenever I travel I want to know where to go to get it. From various questions posted on the internet, it is clear others have the same concern (see, for instance, the recent request in the HB Knockbox regarding Switzerland.) It's possible to find recommendations on the web, but it can take a bit of digging.

I wonder if we could start a database on this site that succinctly lists which cafes to visit where, for those looking to find the real thing but don't know where to go. It could perhaps be organized hierarchically by country, then state or province, then city.

What would it take to make this happen in terms of data management and presentation on the site, and would others be interested in participating?
