Can a user change a thread subject?

Hi,

Lots of times a thread drifts off topic. In the old Usenet days, you'd just reply while changing the subject to fork a new thread. If you can do that on H-B, it isn't obvious to my currently jet-lagged brain. Is it possible, or do you have to wait for the moderator to do it?

You can fill in the subject line. The original subject will still show up in the topic lists, but the revised subject line shows up in each post.

However, it doesn't create the thread splitting that you can do as an option on newsreaders.

You can use the post subject line to introduce new topics, but I think it's more helpful to start another thread and refer back to the original. This helps refocus the thread rather than have several sub-topics running in the same thread. If you want to split a thread, send a note to any of the moderators.
