www.barringtoncoffee.com: truly great coffee roasted to highlight its inherent quality

Cafe guide/listing?

Postby aindfan on Thu Jul 23, 2009 10:16 pm

While this idea may be fully covered by the CoffeeGeek local forums, does anyone think that this site could benefit from a "Home Barista's Home Away From Home" forum? The idea I had involved one city name per thread, and each addition would be a new post if a city already existed in the board, or a new thread if the city did not exist.

...or if Dan (HB) somehow had infinite amounts of time on his hands, a separate page with drop-downs sorting by State (US/Canada) or Country (where there might be fewer submissions than for the US given what I assume is the majority demographic on this forum, but I could be wrong on this). In my idea of this page there would be a way for forum members to submit cafe listings.

Maybe as a measure of spam prevention there would be a minimum post limit for this board/page?

I do realize that this could be somewhat redundant given the number of other web resources available for finding Home-Barista.com caliber cafes and the threads scattered around the Knockbox and Coffees forums, but this idea pops up each time I see a new "NYC Cafes" thread or any time that I post a thread asking where the good cafes in ____ are.

Again, just an idea... I definitely see why this isn't a necessity here.

It would not be hard to setup. For example, a index thread (similar to the FAQs and Favorites at the top of each forum) and then a convention for thread titles like "Recommended Cafes in City, State". As a general rule, a new forum should be seeded by good number of threads moved from existing forums before being opened (otherwise it's like entering a empty room when you expected a party). I've not counted the existing ones, but I don't think there's that many... :?

Restricting the recommendations to established members would be easily handled programmatically (e.g., must be member for at least 60 days and have at least 10 previous posts).
