Pharos manual grinder by Orphan Espresso - Page 31

Doug and Barb,

A suggestion: You should make a video which shows the Pharos in rotation with a light spinning out of the glass top of the lighthouse-fabulous-manual grinder you have made.

I like that the cylindrical shape and clear upper chamber is like a lighthouse.

Bit of a random post I know, but I asked my wife for a grinder for my birthday in June (the model I suggested was a Pharos); given my present is late I'm so hoping she decided to get a Pharos! It will have to be an amazing present to avoid disappointment otherwise! Or maybe I just haven't been good enough, but I thought that only applied to Christmas. Still I have my fingers crossed!
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science.

I ordered one today, not sure if I have to wait for shipping or OE has some currently in stock?

My Vario power board died and this would be my backup (or by reading all the reports, it seems my Vario will become a backup).

Pharos 008 here, and I'll drill the hole to the funnel just now...

I don't have the cardboard (I don't know if I lost), but I remember Doug sent me a distance from center of the axel to the center of the hole. I think it was 27.6mm or 26.7mm... Does anybody could help me here with this measure? It could be center of the stainless screw to the center of hole or center of the plate to the center of hole...

I've used the funnel to set the point to drill but the measure could help me to be more sure.

Márcio.

I found Barb's note! It's 26.7mm center to hole center. I'll drill it!

Several of us members of GCBC bought one Pharos and have it traveling around on a road-show. Spin and Grin is what we call it. We will pick the winning member after we each (8 of us) have had an opportunity to kick the tires and drive it around the block.

We are pitting it against the Compak 10 this afternoon. Sherman is coming up from Chi-town, crossing the Curtain for a Lake Cheddar throw-down at Peter's. Let's see what we can learn about the Pharos that the current 75 pages of posts haven't already told us.

Pics to follow. More at 10pm.

The grinder goes to Sherman in October so you Chi-town brethren, get ready.

ImagePharos Modification

I love my Pharos, however I was getting far too many skinned knuckles when trying to turn the crank and hold the metal between my legs. I found a way to increase the height of the crank, making the grinder much more comfortable to turn. In addition, I can fill beans to the top of the black metal tube extension. Since I could not upload all of the pictures easily, I placed them on my website. Here is the link.
