OE Pharos Counter Pad Grinder Stabilizer Now Available

Postby orphanespresso on Sun Nov 20, 2011 5:26 am

We have been working on this one for a while now and finally got it completed to our satisfaction...a counter grinding stabilization pad for the Pharos hand coffee grinder. We have felt for some time that the issues with instability when counter top grinding are a concern and it has taken a lot of material samples, and a 15 ton die press to get this one done. The pad is dense rubber and basically not compressible so the bottom plate of the Pharos is completely supported all the way around as you hold it down against the counter while turning. Another nice thing we like about the pad - it looks right with the Pharos - not a clunky add on!

We have always felt that there will never be a "new" Pharos or a Pharos 1.1, 1.2, etc and all current owners should be "made whole" to have the current model. AS we did with the funnel and the top adjustment upgrade, the pad will be included with all future Pharos grinders and the price will not increase. As with the previous upgrades we think that the pad should have been a part of the original design and it would have been if we had thought of it at the time. No price increase? you ask....let's call it our small effort to battle what seems to be a continual upward price creep of our coffee addiction....

For all current Pharos owners.....if you want your FREE counter pad, order the pad on the website and use the coupon code PHAROS. Please bear with us....we do ask you to pay for the shipping.

Doug and Barb - an incredible offer and a rarity in today's business environment. I shall place an order for Pharos 001 to receive the upgrade - although i genuinely feel guilty about not paying for what i perceive as an after market add on!

EDIT - got around my guilt by not entering the code!

Just placed my order for Pharos 027. Although I would have been happy to pay the minimal cost, I used the coupon because to honor OE's philosophy on their products. Nevertheless, I've not experienced another company with similar respect for their offerings and their customers.

It is the best customer service I have received (apart from my local coffee roaster) that I have had in a long while. It takes the edge off missing out on the stability ring by a couple of units. I think i can go without for awhile to ship the ring with the other espresso supplies on my wish list.

Thanks again OE.

We feel bad about not getting the stabilizer pad out sooner but we literally went though a dozen rubber samples before we found the right one for our needs. The first approach was a molded silicone rubber piece (at about a 30 dollar per pad cost) but we eventually figured out how to get set up to die cut the pads and laminate two thinner pieces together to get the height we needed for total stability.
On our next hand grinder we will make sure to have all the angles covered so as not to have to double ship mods, updates and parts.....the pad really does complete the Pharos.

Hi Doug,

Did some new information slip out here? Do you have another hand grinder in the works?

Thank you OE for doing the right thing in supporting your product!

I figure the best way to show my thanks is to use the coupon code and to buy an additional item I had been wanting anyway on the same order. This way we both win, me in getting the modification at the original price, and OE in additional sales.

Support honest ethical vendors!

I am certainly pleased that Doug/Barb retrofit our grinders for free, but, really, that is above and beyond the call. I would be happy with obtaining the upgrades at cost, as they are truly upgrades. The original Pharos works well as-is. I made sure I ordered something else with the upgrade...there are always things from OE that I want!!
