I'll have to try that tomorrow morning. I was a little over caffeinated after this morning!

Were you able to make this as sweet as Idido?

Mitch,

You're gonna hate this, but I'll have to check the Idido tomorrow morning and see. No, I don't have much left but am dialing it in on the SJ to pull some for a friend on Monday.

The Mauritania was quite sweet when I had it concentrated enough, if that's what you're asking. This morning's pull was a single and a little coarser grind, and it had the soft, creamy character others have described. It still had some sweetness and less sourness and became more intense as it cooled in the cup.

But ... it's not quite as sweet as the Idido, which has less sourness to go along with the sweetness (on that first shot of the day -- a medium heat attempt had more sourness and more balance). With all those florals and fruits, the Idido triggers many "sweet" signals. But that's just my experience with a few pulls. To really compare these head to head would require more knowledgeable cupping. When I finally "hit" one right with the Mauritania, it was anything but lacking in sweetness. And someone with gear like yours can dial these in more consistently.

That's what I found, and the fruit isn't as bright to me. I guess the truth is that Idido was so good for me that I expected the same type of experience.

I'm going to keep pulling and see what fruit I can get.

I don't think you'll get much fruit with this SO according to CC's review, but it is a really nice sweet and sour SO. The fruit I picked up was subtle. But then on a Linea and a Robur, let us know! I'm going for the balance of creaminess and sweetness.

Mitch, I had both, and I really think they are just 2 pretty different coffees.

The Idido was so strong on the blueberry, that even if it wasnt pulled perfectly,
it was still deep and sweet.

To me, the Mauritania is more of a "natural lungo", the creaminess is gonna lighten things
up at any dose, but its different than lightening things up by just letting the shot run longer.
I guess if you cut the shot short, you will get more of the body you are looking for.

The temp has to be high to get the stone fruit (cherry in my case). When I ordered, they
didn't have parameters yet, but I just checked, and their recommended temp is 201, which to me is on the higher side.

Thanks, appa. I'll have to try upping the temperature to bring that out.

I dropped the temp from 203 to 198 (before reading this) since my first shot this afternoon seemed a little off. I like the balance at this temp and 17g (net 36g in the cup) but it might be too cool. I lost more brightness than what I aimed for - 199 or 200 tomorrow for me. :D

201 worked well this morning. I guess my tastes are more citrus than savory which I think this bean tends towards. Nontheless, I will keep pulling until I get the most out of it.
