Congrats on solving the mystery! Is the new gasket a Cafelat gasket?

And if you don't want us to glue the bracket to your tablet, we'll ask you to specify them when we make your machine for you.
If a purchaser wanted to make the tablet removable, just order without the glued bracket and use a couple of small Velcro pads. The size of the bracket should make it still nice and stable.

I do like the position of new bracket, it will keep the machine looking nice and neat, .......it will just hide a little of the "Pimp My DE1" black carbon fibre group head cover and gloss white outside cover :evil:

No, it's not the group head gasket that you're thinking of, it's a thinner gasket that sits between two brass plates. Lots and lots of gaskets in an espresso machine!

Would it be possible to use four Torx head screws to affix the tablet to the bracket instead of glue? I am imagining what I'd need to do in case I need to swap out the tablet a few years down the road.

Great idea! Hopefully, that would be enough to keep the UL folks happy.

security torx maybe? Those tools are easy enough to come by, but seem to keep regulators happier.

Hopefully is right! Maybe add a dash of some blue loctite for good measure....

That would be great, if it were possible, but I've never seen a tablet that has a bracket mount (ie Torx) on the back. The tablet case is really thin, so it can't support it, and under the case there's a very compact set of batteries, display and electronics. We're unfortunately stuck with what the tablet market supplies.

If Torx screws is a UL-friendly option, then I would propose the mount you have designed but with four holes in the corners, plus a several mm-thick plate that you glue to the tablet, with four matching holes with machined threads. Appropriately sized Torx screws could then affix the tablet to the mount. This would allow:
  • UL certification;
  • Tablet replacement so long as you buy a plate that you glue to the back of the new tablet; and
  • Unsupported removal of the tablet by those who are willing to bear the risk.
The downside would be the additional cost of making the mount two pieces.

Roastini rocks the house again! This is a vastly better suggestion.

Without spilling the beans to UL, I am slightly counter/cabinet challenged and this would let me side mount the tablet.
