Apologize if this has been covered already, but is or will there be an upgrade path from the DE1 to the DE1+ if I desire to take more control of shots? When I search google for the differences between these machines one of the top results is a facebook post from july that indicates a plan for an upgrade pathway but not clear if that is still the case. The website now lists differences in hardware to include a flow meter and temperature sensors but not sure if there are other hardware pieces that also differ and how much could be upgraded based on software.
Thanks in advance.

No need to apologize: one downside of discussing things as they happen on this forum is that potentially out of date information is archived, and that's the case here.dqbrew wrote:Apologize if this has been covered already, but is or will there be an upgrade path from the DE1 to the DE1+ if I desire to take more control of shots? When we first started on this, we thought that the differences between the two models would be purely software, but in the end we needed several additional sensors in order to pull off the extra features, so I'm afraid that you can't just upgrade the software.
On a related topic, since the DE1 and DE1+ are actually quite different user experiences, and oriented toward different users, I'm thinking that a more differentiated name might help. Lots of people ask me "which model is the fancy one?".
How do you feel about this:
DE1: "the classic"
DE1+ "the alchemist"
?

Thanks for the clarification on DE1 and DE1+ and too bad there is no upgrade path but I understand that becomes much more difficult or impossible when the hardware changes.
As to the names, I think your suggestion is close and will be helpful in differentiating the machines.

Any updates on the new engineer review for shipping stability and potential to get these machines out to people? Any changes to the Timeline? Is the new review going to affect the UL certification timeline?

Not much to report, it's only been a week.
At the end of next week we're supposed to have our internal redesign plans and will build our "beta 7" machine.
And yes, of course, we can't get final UL approval until the machine internals design is finalized.

My plan was that the DE2 would be the next iteration of all our espresso machines, coming out in a year or two.sweaner wrote:DE1

Less confusing...maybe?
