The outer spring holds up the upper rubber ring, the inner spring holds up the ball against the rubber ring. And then there is the rod that can be screwed up and down.

Interesting... Apologies for resurrecting such an old thread....

Actually my Urania only has the thinner spring and the larger stainless ball in there above the valve body. In the Faema book, there is a photo schematic of a zodiac group, using real parts, and it shows it exactly like this. This was the only place I could find a schematic of the zodiac group that matched my preinfusion set up...

Maybe the layout as per your pic, with all the extra bits was a later revision? The end cap on mine was also rounder and the valve body lower inner thread is larger to accept the larger cap.
