Which colour Olympia Cremina?

Postby P.B on Thu Jul 07, 2011 12:36 pm

Hi everyone, I need some help or just opinions :D

After test driving (or test pulling) an Olympia Cremina a I've pretty much decided I want one. Now two things need to happen:
1 - convince the wife, and
2 - decide on the colour

Clearly, no-one here can help with #1 but I'd like some opinions on #2.

The options are Anthracite, Red and White. Until I saw the Cremina in anthracite it was the favoured colour. Understated, classic, go with any colour scheme in the kitchen but maybe a bit unadventurous. Red is a colour that I think I will get bored of eventually (and the idea of spending so much on a Cremina is that I won't buy another machine!) but I guess it's the company colour and it's a bit like buying a red Ferrari but I still don't think it's for me. Originally I liked the idea of a white one but then thought it might be a fashionable colour at present and it might age poorly and therefore it wasn't favoured. However, having seen a white Maximatic I was impressed, it looks very understated but classy and suitable for any kitchen.

In summary I'm thinking: Anthracite: Boring but safe. Red: I will tire of. White: looks good but might not age well.

Anyone got another point of view to help me decide or give me something to chew over?

Thanks in anticipation of the flood of opinions I'm about to receive...

Paul.

Let your wife pick the colour? (might help with #1...)

I bet / hope you'll be happy with whatever you chose.

Sounds like a good plan, Phil.....

Mine's anthracite: goes with anything, doesn't show splashes and ages well.

I quite like red, though :D

My vote is on Red. That way your guests will have to ask you what it is, since it is bound to catch their eye. At which point you can say, 'Oh, it is my espresso machine . . . . Would you like me to make you some?'. I would compare buying a white espresso machine to someone buying a white Ferrari. Understated only works in certain situations and in my book espresso machines are not one of them.

You jest. Anthracite, my good man, anthracite.

Black is the new black (quoting an OP when I had mine powder coated shiny puddle black).

Doesn't matter - buy any color.

Then get a custom paint job - sparkly purple with flames.

I'm with allon - sort of. But not sure about the flames.

I'm assuming you're thinking new? Either way if you can afford a newy then a repaint is not out of the question and is straight forward as it's only the panels. If you can find a good used one then you would probably want to freshen it it up anyway. In any colour you like :D .

You could also buy whatever pleases you now. If at any point in the future the color becomes boring or you just want something new you could then have it re-powder coated.

A white Ferrari  that's effectively killed the chance of a white Cremina!

Yes; it will be a new machine because A) used Creminas are rare as hens teeth in the UK and B) the company is bribing the employees to give up on index linked pensions so I have some unexpected cash (and I'm hoping the Cremina will last through my retirement and well into my dotage!) However, I don't particularly want to spend any more repainting a brand new machine.

But it's a very good point that at some time in the future I could simply have it re-powered coated. In the meantime I'll abdicated the responsibility to the wife 8)

Cheers - Paul.

I think the red looks sharp, but it really depends on the context. If you want it to "blend in" with today's popular kitchen decors (granite, stainless), then I believe anthracite is the best choice. On the other hand, if you want it to stand out, go red. The white... :| I suppose that it would go with an ultra-clean, minimalist look, if that's your thing.

That said, if it will be located in "her" kitchen, Phil offers the best advice:
