Used Europiccola with cracked heating element - Page 2

Postby coelcanth on Tue Feb 23, 2010 5:01 pm

hi,

I am looking for some parts for an early europiccola as well, mine was damaged in shipping and the steam valve/knob assembly itself got terribly bent.. newer parts won't fit..

if you are replacing yours maybe you can help ?

I tried to get the steam knob off, but it seemed stuck fast. I will have another go and see how I do :)

*EDIT* - I managed to crack the steam assembly off of the boiler. It seems intact - knob, valve and wand. Any use?

thanks for the help !
here is a picture of the internal differences of the valve i mentioned
hopefully not as confusing

top assembly is from a 1964 Europiccola
bottom is from a ca. 1990's machine

either way though, i could probably use the entire valve/steam wand assembly if you don't need it

This one is definitely has a pin holding the knob to the valve. I held a ruler up to the boiler mounting thread so that you can see if this unit would be a slot-in replacement for your existing one, so that would (hopefully) solve the problem.

EDIT: I just unscrewed it from the valve - measurements to follow!

The top assembly looks like the one from my La Cara. Functionally the same, but slightly different cosmetically. Could never get that allen screw out.

Right - this one is definitely like the bottom one in your picture. The pointy end is 6mm, the shaft above the inner thread is 7mm.

I suspect that it won't fit your existing valve, as it is too new same as the bottom one. I can still send the entire unit if that would help, assuming it will fit the thread on the boiler.

Hi Guys,
For what it's worth, similar to mikekarr above, I've also had multiple La Cara's with the "top" steamvalve, and had them replaced with the "newer" smaller steamvalves, and unless I have been very lucky ( now 4 out of 4) the steamvalves have all worked without a problem - I'd give it a go
Good Luck

it's good to know I can use the later part if i need to..

ps.:
I couldn't get the allen set screw out of the knob either ! but it succumbed to the drill press
