This summer I visited at Modena the Cagliari museum with the help of Davide.
I will show you a part of the lever section.
Fabulous moment, thanks to Davide and Mme. Cagliari. Granddaughter of the founder.

The machines are often taped to the wall. This explains the shots.

Great bunch of photos there! Thank you.

Those classic lever machines look so nice. Could you imagine an espresso lever party held at that location?

While all the designs are lovely and original I can definitely see it as an espresso mechanic's nightmare to keep a wide array of machines in service for all the shops of the day. I'm sure when designs like the E61 took hold it made repair alot easier!

Thank you so much for sharing those! I wish that the USA wasn't a percolator culture back then, maybe we could have designed something as nice a these.:) I love the "atomic" design of the 1950's and it's really sad to compare these older machine's to today's "Boxes" rolling out of factories. No more imagination.

truly astounding collection- thanks for taking these images!

What amazes me about the machines from that era is that the engineers and designers had to do pretty much everything on paper and by hand. Today everything can be done on computers, designs can be manipulated in three dimensions, prototype parts can be 'printed' in plastic- in short everything should be much easier- yet modern designs generally have NOTHING on what they were doing in Italy in the 1950's. Talk about De-Evolution...

I just looked through these pictures for the umpteenth time. I asked myself this time to pick one - "If I could have one of the beauties, which would it be?"

I can't do it!
