For sure, I want to keep mine as original as possible too. The accuracy of CT1 reported temperatures is impressive and so are its good looks.

Yes, the CT1 is visually unique, a nice balance of old school and contemporary.

Well, that should address the concerns of anyone worried about the copper water chamber (who wouldn't have purchased a Strietman yet, anyway). Depending on the thickness of the steel liner, it could slightly slow down warm up and make temperature adjustments very slightly more sluggish, but very slightly improve temperature stability.

Ooooh, nice! Hopefully we'll be able to order the part on it's own for those of us who already have a CT1.

That's what I'm hoping for, too!

Eastsideloco wrote:+1. I've never ordered from Strietman, but have ordered a fair amount of specialty coffee gear from the Eurozone. I was never assessed a VAT charge on any of those orders. Did I just get lucky? Or does the VAT charge not apply to US orders?
VAT does not apply to purchases made outside the EU. In fact, tourists from non-EU countries can buy good from certain shops which will charge them the non-VAT price and send the goods to the airport for collection when they enter their planes.

I've been testing one of 2 prototypes of the new Copper/SS bimetal dome for about 4 weeks. Wouter has the nice version (shown in his picture on FB) and mine has a lesser finish but that's what you get with prototypes. The SS is 0,2mm thick for those who want to know. I really like the look of it and for those who where worried about toxidity of the standard copper dome the worrying is over :D . Here in the Netherlands all water pipes are copper so I don't really care about toxidity in the standard dome.

Warmup and temperature management is exactly the same as with the standard copper dome. It can be retrofitted to an existing CT-1 with a copper dome. Temperature stability is also the same as with the standard copper dome. The only difference I noticed is that the temperature difference with/without the lid on is larger with the SS/Copper dome, 5C instead of 3C with the standard dome.

Have any USA customers had trouble getting their machine out of customs? DHL got the package from Eindhoven to Cincinnati overnight (Saturday) and I had to do online-chat with two different reps, who said customs demanded the sender's address (is that not on the package?) and my SSN (seriously???). Now I'm told the FDA won't let it through. WTF?

I too want to know what is happening with the DHL Customs connection or lack thereof. Every time I do international business getting something from DHL International it is a different hassle or the different ways they extract their fees.
