Timo, I used Durgol's "Swiss Espresso" dosed descaler. I use the normal Durgol in my kettle and it is indeed very aggressive.

I'll try Starry's troubleshooting tip next time I use it, that's quite clever.

FWW,
The older Creminas had the element silver brazed to the top of the little hump that the overtemp fits into on the bottom of the machine. That may have come loose.
IIRC There was a post somewhere a long while ago of a modification carried out be a rebuilder who slightly stretched the coils upward from the bottom to keep the loops from vibrating against each other.
