SAMA Club dispersion screen - wanted

Postby simonarcher on Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:18 pm

Leverheads:

I'm almost through a refurb of a Sama Club. It was a disASSter when I got it, but with some patience it has come back to its former shape.

What I'm missing is the right size of dispersion screen. I'm looking for one as pictured in the lower right corner below.

Any leads much appreciated!

Thanks for the reply.

The inside diameter of the group piston shaft is 40mm and outside diameter of the shaft is 46-47mm. The outside edge of the piston shaft is beveled, which is in part why I think the rim on the dispersion screen is so long - its needs a bit of a sleeve.

uhmmmm
I assuming you are measuring the piston itself not the shaft????
so I will assume so
then the elektra will be too small it is about 38mm,

however in case the name you are calling them are not what I call them
the cylinder chamber
inside diameter of the grouphead is 40mm
then a 4mm edge then the groove for the grouphead gasket and shower screen
over all diameter of the wider bottom part of the grouphead is72mm
shower screen is
OD 48mm
ID 47mm
tall 14mm
diameter of the lip 52mm

Thanks - you're right i was measuring the group piston chamber not the piston head itself. The chamber has an inside diameter of 40 mm and an outside diameter of 46/47mm.

so if the shower screen is 46mm inside diameter then I think it could fit. I'll order one and try it.

Leverheads -

I am still searching for a dispersion screen for my refurbed sama (sample pic above). I tried the MK screen recommendation, but it was slightly to large and deep. Tried some home mods, but nothing satisfactory resulted.

I've also tried the screens from newer PV export/lusso models but they are too small in diameter by about 1-2mm, and they are a little shallow, as there is a slightly bevelled outer edge to the lip at the bottom of the group cylinder- so the screen has to push over the bevelled lip to catch the outside shaft of the cylinder.

This is the only thing holding me up from pullin on the refurbed sama club. Would really appreciate any leads or advice! Willing to ship it in from...anywhere...

Thanks in advance, -sa

I think you could pull shots without the screen if you flushed the group well afterwards. If you try it once, empty the boiler into a white bowl afterwards to be sure coffee wasn't sucked up into it.

Have you looked into old Bezzera Family or Elektra screens. Both are 49 mm, the same size as the old Samas I think.

Check with Joe at The Good Coffee Company in Seattle. He sold lots of Sama and still repairs them. He might have the part.

That's a MCal group (though the picture is from my Sama). But they are the same and you can buy the entire group from Italy- not sure of the supplier: Ascaso?

Don't think it will work very well without the screen. I left mine off a Lusso once and the shot I tried to make was a mushy puck disaster.
