Rust under driptray of Elektra Microcasa

Hi,

I have discovered rust underneath the drip tray - the machine is less than 1 year old.
There is some rust near the screw, but also on the other side - far from the scew.

Maybe I could understand the rust near the screw if it get a bit wet - but the other side? I thought it was stainless steel?

It is still under guarantee, but before I contact them, I wanted to hear your opinion. could it be a defect - or is it reasonable for it to happen if beneath the tray becomes wet?

My Elektra is a well used 9 year old and there is not a spot of rust anywhere in the base. I think you may have a valid warranty claim and that your machine is a Monday or Friday machine. The base is plated steel, not stainless so it sounds like the plating process might have been a bit wonky in your case.

My MCaL is two years old & doesn't have a spec of rust under the drip tray. I always remove the tray after each use for cleaning & make sure that area is dry. If you were to leave water sitting in there I could see how it would rust near the screw. As DrD mentioned the base is chrome plated & the screw threads probably have very little plating to protect against rusting.

David, I have 3 Mcals all of various ages and there's no rust on any of them even the Copper/Brass lever I rescued a few months back. Sound like you need to get it handled with the warranty. Elektra is a stellar company and their equipment is top notch.
