That is very unusual. It looks like an electrified moka maker with a lever to lock in the portafilter. I have sent a message to our member LVX (Lucio) to ask him about it.

My friend Rotchitos told me about this auction two week ago at that's only today that I had a revelation.

I was fooled by the title of the sell [«COFFE MACHINE EDISONIA (SNIDER)»]... because this is not a Snider at all.
[edit: this is not precisely true... as I discovered it few month later. Details are available on the episode 22 of my espresso saga (in French)].

For posterity, it will be worth keeping here some pictures of this very peculiar machine before they disappear from eBay:

Because this model perfectly fit one of the first (or the very first) electrical "express" coffee maker for domestic usage: as described on a 1909 patent from Manlio Marzetti.

Some additional information are available on my Episode 17 from «Ascenseur pour l'espresso» (in french).

Thank you for that research, Sebastien! That is one odd and ancient machine. Your link is really helpful for putting it in context.

Here's a similar, stove-top version on YouTube:

I missed this thread while moving back to sunny California but - wow ... wow... wow. I hope the buyer ends up posting about it here.

The link doesn't work, but that certainly indicates it's an important machine.
