Ponte Vecchio Lusso and Cafiza

Postby spark on Mon Nov 22, 2010 6:15 pm

I am wondering if backflushing is advisable on a Lusso? My machine needs some general maintenance and I do flush the group head between shots, but I didn't know if cafiza is too strong since this is a lever.

Thanks

You cannot physically backflush a ponte vecchio, there is no where for the water to backflush to. I don't know where you would find a blind filter in any case that would fit. I assume you just want to flush water through the group while descaling, which is not recommended as it will break down the lubricant around the piston seals. A small amount is probably OK, but I prefer to clean the group shower screen, and the bottom of the piston (with a wet cloth), and that should be enough. Once the seals need replacing, doing a thorough cleaning of the group is a good idea.

Great, thanks for the answer. I wasn't sure, and it sounded weird, hence the question.
