Ponte Vecchio handle replacements by Cafe Kultur

Postby aindfan on Mon Mar 01, 2010 8:31 pm

Have any Ponte Vecchio owners replaced their lever and portafilter handles with Cafe Kultur handles?

I was considering getting a set, but they're pricey! Any comments on how they look in real life?

I haven't seen these handles, but Jens also makes TORR tampers, which are one of my favorites. His finish work is impeccable. Artazza wrote a nice bio about him: Jens Rufenach.

Can those be used for the lever handle? It reads like they are selling it strictly for the portafilter, but one would assume if you do one you'd want to do all. I've been eying up a Lusso 2, and the Ebonit grey-brown would flow nicely with my kitchen.

ImageI have had a pair of Cafe Kultur Palisander handles on my Cremina for two years. They are absolutely gorgeous. I also have a Palisander TORR tamper and as HB says they are beautiful. I just today received a Grenadill handle for my Maximatic and a 54mm Pear Wood tamper. The quality far surpasses the price.

I have not changed my handles because the original black handles match my black PVE. But I did machine the end of the lever handle into a hemisphere. This was to stop the sharp corner of the original handle from digging into the palm of my hand every time I pushed the lever down. Now lever operation is definitely more comfortable and may be even more controllable.

Impressive. Now if someone could cut me some star-shaped (i.e., Brewtus-style) steam and hot water knobs and sell me the set with handles, I'd be sold!

Should I be emailing Dave?

The original plastic lever and the portafilter handles are interchangeble, so one would assume these are as well. So if you have a 2 group lusso, then kitting it out with new handles aint going to be cheap. Despite that, I am tempted!

Pasmarose are an excellent outfit and I would recommend them highly. They have a passion for PV's that I have not seen anywhere else - at least on this side of the pond.

Karl,

Where did you purchase your Kultur Cremina lever handles?

Thank you.

From Pasmarose

Choose Cafe Kultur then Griffe Classic.

These handles and tampers look spectacular. The feel in your hand [Zuhandenheit if you know the term] is in fact even better.

As I pulled my afternoon shot on the Ponte Vecchio I was thinking of ks' comment on the feel of his wooden handles, and on the aesthetics of my Export in general. I think I would really like to have a set of Gabon ebony handles turned for it. These would perfectly match the white and black finish, which I've grown to like over the years.
