Holy Smoke! The Details!

Well guys I sincerely apologize for the wait on this but there has been details galore for me to work out on some of the Reg stuff, custom bases, base variables, price hikes from Reg, etc, etc, etc.

So here is the link...
http://www.espressoparts.com/cate...stacom_tamps.lmwdp

Don't lose that link as this is an unlinked/hidden section in Espresso Parts which means unless you come back or hit your back buttons after visiting you'll likely not find these tamps again.

First round of tamps should ship out Friday if ordered by Thursday.

I won't be applying the HB logo to Reg tamper pistons. Why? Well besides the different materials, if some how I mess one up it will take forever to get a replacement. Reg bases are already going to be a wait and I'd hate to screw something up even more.

If Dan approves I could also add the customized LMWDP Espressocraft/EP Hybrid "Barismo Spec" tamp later today as I am adding that tamper to our site today anyway. When that happens I'll also be adding a flamed tamp option for $20. You'll see what I mean when it is up, but it is a cool treatment if you are into the motorcycle/hot rod flame thing.

I had not noticed until now Reg has raised his tampers to 70 CDN, ouch! Suddenly the Compressore model looks extra sweet. Anyway, the webpage says LMWDP Custom Size Option where you can select 0.1mm increments. It looks like the custom turned piston is no additional charge. Is that correct?

Absolutely! The logo in black would look really sharp on that.

For those who haven't heard about the Espresso Tamper: Barismo Spec, Ben at http://www.barismo.com takes the Espressocraft tamper, replaces the piston with a convex EPNW piston, replaces the plastic adapter with a brass ring adapter, mills the ridges smooth, sandblasts the finish, and applies a C flat curve to the piston. Ben isn't selling them, he made them after being inspired by the HB Tamper Roadshow. As I understand it, the hybrid version from EPNW uses stock components.

Our pistons our all CNC milled and turned when they arrive from our machinist. As we don't have a CNC in-house our hand turning won't be as accurate as a CNC.

The Reg custom sized pistons are all coming from him and he does have a CNC.

Hi David (White),

I just tried to order the Compressore for my pavoni, a 51mm base. It has a section called "LMWDP Custom Size Option" on the order page, and lists numbers from 0.1 to 0.9. I assume that this refers to the custom base diameter, e.g. 49.5mm etc. But there's no "0" in the drop down menu; I need a 51.0mm base.

Could you help?

Thanks!

The best fit for my Europiccola basket was 51.2. Is there anything larger than a 49.0 that is a better fit for a Cremina/a leva basket?

Measuring my baskets:
49.2 cremina single
49,.5 Cremina double
49.3 Europiccola / Pre Millennium
49.4 My tamper for all baskets used on my Cremina
49.7 MCal double
A 49.7 max diameter tamper would work for the Elektra MCal basket only. 49.6 would probably be better. A light sanding of the larger 49.7 would remove the excess diameter of a couple of thou./ .01mms.

I find that a tight fit squashes the grind to the basket walls and makes removing the loose grind from the walls a bit tougher.
YMMV
Sincerely
Richard

My custom size oversight has been fixed. Sorry about that guys. Custom sizes for the Reg folks is one of the details I had to work out and I didn't work it out so well eh?

For those hyper concerned about accuracy on your custom size piston I would stick with ordering one from Reg. Our method is as clean and will be close but not caliper close and I've seen you folks out there with your digital calipers.
