Olympia Cremina yard sale find, need gaskets and pointers

Postby cimmik on Sun Jun 24, 2007 9:00 am

:D So...I found an Olympia Xpress Cremina Lever Machine at a yard sale for $5.00. It was only used 3xs and the woman was glad to get rid of it! I was glad to find it! It's stainless steel and red (which matches my kitchen beautifully by the way) I own a Starbucks Barista machine, but this seems to fully outclass and outperform that machine incredibly. I have decent knowledge of espresso machines, worked for SBUX for 6 years in management and management training, but still need some guidance regarding this machine) Where can I get some new gaskets...the leakage is minimal, but definitely present, and is there any way to get my hands on a manual. I'd just like to read up on this. I've successfully steamed the most frothy, sweet milk ever, and the shot quality is like I've only dreamed of. Lucky day going to that garage sale...lol...and people criticize the "yard sale goers". If anyone can point me in the right direction or give me some pointers, I'd love it! Thank you! I look forward to hearing from a true Olympia Cremina aficionado. Have a great day! Kim

There really isn't a manual but there is a plethora of postings here and on http://www.coffeegeek.com . 1st-line did sell the gaskets and some parts but there web site didn't have the page today. Try
http://www.1st-line.com/parts/parts.htm and maybe you'll have better luck.

First - Welcome- Second - we all don't like you..... $5.00 is not fair... but good for you..! darn it.

Now- you might start by using the search function and do some looking up on techniques, cremina etc. Do some reading first hand- we all love to help- but you will save us all a ton of typing by getting some of the reading done and then you will have more specific questions.

I am not great at condensing links to parts sources - there are about two or three. Some one can throw those in this topic. Home Espresso Repair in Seattle does repair, Does anyone know if Rudy's in New York still repairs Oly's? First Line may have parts back in stock .. or not and there is a guy in California with a few seals etc.

Once again - Hope you like the machine

Kim,
Have a look at my post from a few weeks ago. There's a fellow in California (Chris Rygg) who repairs Creminas and has a number of the gaskets manufactured for him I just emailed him recently and he will have 3 piece gasket sets for the piston available in a few weeks for "around $40". No one recently has been able to get any correspondence from Olympia, so I wouldn't bother with the factory. A few have posted recently about workarounds with La Pavoni gaskets. See this link:

http://www.home-barista.com/forum...reminas-t4233.html

Good luck. Wish I had paid $5 for mine! Michael

The owners manual for your Cremina is available on the Olympia Express Site in various formats and languages. Go to:

http://www.olympia-express.ch/default.htm

Under Main on the left side of the page, select Service and Support. Then under the Cremina 67, click on Operating Manuals and Technical Diagrams. Select User manual Cremina 67 Tav 25 for the manual in English as a PDF.

To order a gasket set, also go to the same place, but now under Cremina 67, select Technical Info USA (60Hz). This will bring up an interactive diagram of the machine. If you want the complete set including the piston group gaskets, click on V Machine Gasket Set and you will see at the top:

Code: 07.1390.30.30 Price: CHF 115.00 (€75.66) ($96.64)
No. pieces: 1 Description: COMPLETE MACHINE GASKET SET

If you only need the piston gasket set, click on Z Piston Gasket Set and at the top you will see:

Code: 07.1390.30.40 Price: CHF 79.00 (€51.97) ($66.39)
No. pieces: 1 Description: PISTON ASSEMBLY GASKET SET

Click on add to cart. When you are finished, click on view cart and follow the directions. You will be given a choice of either printing your order and faxing it, or emailing the order. Once you do this, you will receive and confirmation giving you the total including shipping and asking for your credit card information. Be sure to watch for and answer this confirmation as the order cannot be processed without it.

Bob,
Do I infer correctly from your blithe instructions that factory is once again accepting orders for parts?

Oh ya, they accept the orders and they even confirm the order. But that is the last you will hear from them... Even after repeated requests for updates... :(

Anyone received their orders from as far back as 11/2006?

I can understand your frustration with the factory, but I have in the past received items ordered, after a long wait. My concern these days stems from reports that the company is now, or soon will be, under new management or ownership. My faxed order was never confirmed, and I received an automated email stating that my email had been deleted without being read :?

My latest experience with them was three months ago and went as follows:

1. I filled in the order from the website for a piston gasket set for the cremina 67 in the manner described by Bob Craige in this thread
2. Printed it out, and faxed it to them with my credit card details as per their instructions on the website (which asks not to send credit card details by email, only by fax or phone).
3. Simultaneously I emailed them asking merely for confirmation of receipt of order. I didn't ask for a progress report, just a confirmation.

RESULT: no reply to my email, nor to the actual order, no has my credit card been debited

What conclusions can one draw from that? (other than they did not get my faxed order or my email - both highly unlikely as I was VERY careful in sending them off, especially my credit card details).
