I just finished replacing the gaskets and seals on my Olympia Cremina 67, and all went well except:
the thermal safety reset does not work when I have it installed in the boiler plate - meaning I get no power. When the reset switch is not inserted in the plate, but has wires attached, the machine works fine.

Is there a trick or method for reinstalling this switch? I have tried tightening the clip down a lot, and also having it fairly loose, but neither works.

Thanks,
Peter

Have you tried all of the combinations....switch out of plate with and without clip, switch out of plate upside down and rightside up etc? Weird behavior, but it may be a problem with the switch and the reset post getting stuck, or even being too loose inside the switch body.

What is the correct method of installing the reset switch, screw down the clip tightly? I would imagine so. It sounds like what you're saying is that the switch is probably broken and I need a new one. It's a shame as from what I understand orphan espresso's replacement switch is quite a bit smaller.

I wonder what I could have done to it, because it was working fine until I took it out and then replaced it.

Perhaps the clip that holds the switch in place is binding on the reset post. Yes, it is to be tightened as the wire that leads from the end of the clip is part of the grounding system so it should be tight. As far as the fuse size, we have seen a number of machines with a replaced switch using the classic blue switch as is found on an Elektra etc, and this switch is smaller as well and required some type of metal object in the hole to raise it to the proper height....we have seen brass washers used, a cut brass rod, a brass pipe cap, and pennies.....each repairer along the line seems to have their own method for adapting a standard thermal switch for this repair...as long as the temperature rating is the same it should be fine.

Thanks for your reply. I've been out of town for a while, but will continue working on my Olympia when I get back home. If I figure out the solution to the thermal safety reset problem I will post it here. Thanks again.

I have discovered that the switch does work sporadically, and if I press on the of the wires leading to it, it will work, but will stop when I take my finger off.

Has anyone tried to open one of these babies up, in order to repair a loose connection. Do you think it's possible without destroying it?
