Olympia Cremina powers on, but does not heat up

Postby mborkow on Mon Jan 11, 2010 5:16 pm

I've been using my 1983 '67 Cremina every day for about the last 18 months until this AM when I went to switch it on. I thought everything was OK at first (machine came on), but when I went back to it 15 minutes later to bleed off the steam (by opening the wand) I noticed the pilot light did not come on...the machine was warm to the touch at that point (so it had been on) but nothing I did would coax the machine to start heating again. For some reason, I suspect the thermostatic switch on the bottom of the boiler. I accessed it to try to reset it, but the little white piece in the center of the switch actually came out when I tried to press it in...I've sent an email to OE but am still waiting for a response...any ideas?

TIA

Switch is traveling.....you can bridge the wires and bypass the old switch as a short term still use it format....just don't go away for long periods of time since there might be some underlying issue that caused the switch to go kaput. The original brown switches seem to kindof occasionally unravel and the blue ones seem to be stouter but the plastic top can come off, not so much the button but the entire housing disintegrates. Could be a good time to check out the electrical system overall to make sure all is well throughout...good terminals etc, and no appearance of melted wires and such.

I tried that this AM, and the boiler light came right on. I'll try installing the new switch with a couple of nickels as you suggested on the OE site.

Thanks!

the diameter of the nickels was too large so I had to go with some pennies, but the machine is now working
