It would be interesting if something attached to the rod could be used to measure the flow profile - ie, rod position vs time. My experience is that the pressure isn't what is actually effecting taste - it's grind and flow rate over time (plus all the other factors, coffee, roast, temp over time, puck thickness, etc).

One could record the profile (pressure or flow) of their best shots and then some computer device could provide 3 lights (more/OK/less) to help the user duplicate it.

I'd love to have a lever machine that has classic looks and the consistency possible with modern controls.

Classic look with modern controls integrated in a small manual lever is quite difficult. But you are right flow rate is essential also. All you need is a smart digital scale with an app for logging. Acaia is capable doing this as it is.

Hi Gábor, love your "skeletonized" pressure gauge. You could even just make some markings on the Bourdon tube itself.

Are you planning a normal dial? Or one to match the current look?

If you want a matching look, you could look for a stainless internal gauge. I'm not sure that all the parts on them are stainless, or just the tube. But it has me interested to crack one open!

Hey Andre,

I thought of that myself. But I don't know how sensitive are these tubes.

No way :-). I like that NAKED look. No place for a normal dial. I think of a very thin sickle shaped SS dial running paralell with the Bourdon tube, leaving the mechanic open/transparent.

Post some pictures if you opened one of yours pls!

Cheers

A clear polycarbonate disc with the relevant markings on it?
