Hello all and thanks for the ego boo!

To get a bit more serious, who has the most baskets and machines that it might fit.? I would consider the loan of the PF, post and insurance paid one way, to someone having a good way to test it in many different machines and use many different baskets in it. :D

I am considering sending it and the drawings to have it quoted for a quality CNC machining effort which could allow the small batch production of them. I find posts on other threads also looking for Cremina PF's. Plating may be possible but that would depend on the group will.

If the PF flexibly meets needs, there would be an up front cost asked of every one ordering. with a fixed price upon delivery. The brass alone is about $25 for each one. It does allow the use of regular and "espressme" and stock Cremina handles. I have used it with stock Cremina baskets and the LaPavoni Euro 49mm baskets.

Lino has said that he is behind on projects and it would be a while before he can start. My equipment is ok for prototypes and small jobs but, too persnickety/ light duty to depend on for a batch of PFs.

So, it is up to you all as to where to go from here. I know that a quantity of 10 would be a minimum batch to send out. I am not sure of the cost but that will become apparent after the drawings are updated and the original Cremina PF lugs are better defined.

The ball is in your court and the clock is ticking!
Cheers ! :)

Just two quickies.

1) Have you considered http://www.emachineshop.com? I don't have the software installed right now so I don't know if they do brass, but for a small run, they might be pretty reasonable. The per piece cost might be pretty good after splitting the setup fee a few ways.

2) Have you considered making a brass, bottomless pf for the La Peppina?

As I have stated before I am in.
What you have produced is quite the design.
It seems as if ten units would be the target area. Logistics to get this started would be to get a tighter price estimate so that members of a 'group buy' could have an idea of what to expect (say within a 10% margin of discrepancy of the quoted price). Professional machine shops will figure a margin into any bid price anyway.
Funds (deposits perhaps $100.00) could be sent by the prospective buyers, in advance, to get the units produced and once they are produced the final cost would be established and the balance paid by individuals to receive their portafilters.
Thoughts?

Richard,
I will volunteer to try it out on a 1975 Club and 1992 Cremina, with several generations of Oly baskets, singles and doubles, an Elektra single, and some other baskets that were purported to be Oly baskets.

The PF will be shipped back to you, insured for $200, via USPS Priority or Fedex Ground/Home Delivery, your choice.
Regards
Timo

I have, and would do so when the PF is vetted. :) Usually the set-up is 80% of the cost. The materials cut quick on solid machines! A while back someone wanted cheap tampers and the cost was $360 for six and $300+ for one. I will optimize the drawings for machineability.

2) Have you considered making a brass, bottomless pf for the La Peppina?

Lay awake half the night thinking about that one! - might do it! Fun!:D Also I consider that some of the other older machine PF supplies may be running low and /or the real pfs are too valuable to cut up.

Good Questions! Thanks!
sincerely

Hi Bob,
I still imagine, wistfully, that the total cost per piece would be around $130. More if plated. 8)
Thanks!

Hi Tim,
I hope to find someone that also has access to the Maximatic and other year Creminas. I remember sadly, that you have the worlds largest collection of non- fitting baskets. Don't worry, you are still in the running! It may take two trials. For the moment, I am having fun with it! My shot quality is improving!
Thanks
richard
EDIT: Man. can you get wet and clean the kitchen afterwards if your tamp is off

Richard, I have a '75 Cremina with an original double basket. That's it. Let me know how (if at all) I can be of service, short of posting the entire machine to you

Well then... could we individually send you $100.00 per... as a deposit for each unit and then await completion and final price? Of course thsi would not happen until you deem the time appropriate.
Does that sound equitable to you?
I have the 67 and 86 Creminas and 9 baskets but 6 of those are Leva A doubles... I have never had a problem with the baskets' compression fit against the grouphead portafilter gasket on either machine.
Even when I used the La Pavoni's Europiccola portafilter (one produced in the 60's and the other in the 70s) in the '67 and '86 Creminas the seal was great. And as you know the ears of the Pavoni are designed to seal in the grouphead turning in the opposite direction as the Cremina.
But I have had to grind down the circumference of the lip on the Leva As to fit inside the grouphead of the Cremina.

Really encouraged to hear that you're willing to use your design and most of all take the banner and move forward in this enterprise. Thanks...

Well, Tim,
You are the lucky person to start the testing! We should know where to send it after your trials to check other machines.
I would like you to use a magic marker on all surfaces to show where the pressure was. On the baskets too! Where it is worn is the high spots.
Thanks! :)
please email me with your all day address for USPS
richard

Edit: The PF will be shipped from user to user to get the bugs out before the major effort of producing some.

PPS, Thanks to "Fullsack" we have a drawing of the Cremina dispersion screen to work from for building tooling to convert other 49mm screens to fit well.

Hi Folks,
Time for the "NEWD" PF roadshow!
Today the PF goes to Timmo,
1975 Club and 1992 Cremina, with several generations of Oly baskets, singles and doubles, an Elektra single, and some other baskets that were purported to be Oly baskets.

Next to:
bukaeast:
49mm Pasquini Livietta (rebadged Maximatic)

If you have a different machine, please PM me for a chance in line.
Thanks all!
richard
PS... This is a butt-ugly engineering sample with mistakes and not a finished salable item. It is only shined up enough to make it easy to clean. It is, however enough to test the viability of the real dimensions. 8)

Beautiful work, Richard.

Unqualified success with 1992 Cremina and 1975 Club.

Every basket I own for the Olympia...except the one the elves were hammering.

Regards
Timo

P.S. Since everything worked perfectly, do I still have to paint my baskets with magic marker?

My elves are not slackers...just hamfisted.

I will be sending Richard's naked PF for Olympia espresso machines to the next tester-in-line on Monday morning.

Anyone else who is willing to test the PF, please identify your machine's model and year if you haven't already done so, either here in this thread or via private message to Richard (espressme). Your name will be added to the list if the model/year have not already been accounted for.

Hi, everybody,
I've been following your thread about the bottomless portafilter and
would love a chance to try it on my 2 Olympia Creminas... I have a 78
and a 91 cremina with 2 single and 4 double baskets, 1 single is
original and 3 of the doubles I believe are original as well. Please let me
know if i can help and keep me on the list of people interested in
buying one once you move into production!
thanks

Okay
I will give it a whirl. I have a 67 and 86 cremina with about 9 - 10 baskets.
