Olympia Cremina 67 Mystery Water in Drip Tray

Postby BenBob on Mon Nov 15, 2010 8:38 pm

I have a recently restored Cremina 67 that has produced great shots over the past year.In the last month I have noticed a bit of water in the drip tray and I cant seem to find the source -It happens during warm up and after cool down -it seems to be coming from the right side but under the front cover. its not alot, but it hasnt happened before the last few weeks. Any guesses? Sight glass maybe? It looks fine

Thanks,
Ben

Sight glass lower nut is always a good suspect, especially on a semi recent rebuild as it takes a number of heat cycles to expand and contract the metal parts. By running the machine with the cover off you should be able to see the source of the leak and just tighten the nut a bit. The best rebuilds are the ones that the rebuilder has not overtightened the fittings since this treats the seals easier and avoids any tears of deformation of the seal, but also one has to return to retighten after a period of use.

The top nut under the boiler cap holds the cover...30mm socket, open end, or even crescent wrench. The water level nuts are 17mm...open end is best or a custom tool and I have heard of good enough success with a needle nose pliers on that nut if it is not too tight. Pstat nut=17mm steam wand nut=15mm steam valve back fitting-17mm pressure safety valve=17mm steam pipe at boiler=12mm , all hex bolts=5mm, group siphon tube=10mm pressure safety valve inner nut=5mm hex tiny nuts on front panel corners=6mm.....oh yes, steam faucet outer retaining nut=17mm and piston rod top nuts, 15mm and 17mm. Did I miss any?
