Hi Folks:

I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks, researching a replacement for my Gaggia so-called "Old White Coffee" (single-boiler, vibe pump, 3-way solenoid; Susan knows the type well!). I really wanted some real pre-infusion, I didn't want to learn HX tricks, and I wanted to be able to steam milk while, or immediately after, pulling a shot. It seemed to me that this meant a double-boiler E61 pump machine, or a lever. I went the lever route, opting for a bright red Ponte Vecchio Export. I have only pulled all of two shots on it so far, but I already like the espresso, and the user experience, much more than what I had before. Feeling so committed to lever-dom and its eventual domination, I will now post this and apply for my LMWDP number!!

Hope to see you all 'round!

Me too! Pulling shots this last week on a Caravel and still looking forward to getting a Peppina up and running.

Getting the Caravel was an adventure, the vendor asked for more money after shipping, and I wasn't entirely sure the whole thing was going to work out until the package arrived. But the espresso is as wonderful as people have been saying. I started with Peet's Garuda, which is an old favorite of mine, and I've just started on some of Klatch's Belle Espresso, which is almost overwhelmingly dark and rich.

Here's the machine sharing space on a crowded counter:Image

Hello all, have been here a while, and think it may be time to tell you a little about myself.
I am 37 years old and has always been a fan of coffee.
After a trip to Italy in 2004, I was really inspired by their coffee culture.
I saw their beautiful Elektra P1 Belle Epoque and was immediately in love with the Elektra brand.

After having owned a Spidem pump machine for a few years, I finally bought me an MCAL in August, and what a beauty!
I must say that it has taken me to a whole new stage in the making coffee, all the preparation and things you have to do, to get a really nice cup of espresso, or ristretto as I prefer :P

I still think I learn something new about making coffee using my MCAL, but has really been made some of the best shots ever recently, much better than what you buy in town in coffeeshops.
Currently I use a blend of 58% Daterra Sweet Collection, Brazil. 23% Finca Vista Hermosa, Guatemala. 19% Idido, Aricha, Ethiopia. It's Sweet, notes of marzipan, chocolate and strawberry.

I have new handles and two tampers sent from Thor Tampers, made in dark myrtlewood, looking forward to upgrade my Elektra.
I will post new pictures when the items from Les has arrived.

Take care all
Regards Jannik

Interesting wood patterns :D and welcome (also to the lovely world of MCALs).
